Health Equity North’s are hosting the first ever Woman of the North Summit in partnership with Human Rights Solicitors, Leigh Day and the Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA).

Discussions at the event, which is free to attend, will centre on the enormous response to the recent “Woman of the North” report and the creation of a “Women’s Charter”.  Keynote speakers include Kim McGuinness (Mayor of the North East), Tracy Brabin (Mayor of West Yorkshire) and Woman of the North report authors.

Afternoon workshops will cover topics including:

  • Women’s rights in the workplace
  • Women’s health and ageing
  • Empowering women to tackle child poverty
  • Representing marginalised women’s voices
  • Domestic violence in the North
  • Building support for carers
  • The safety of women and girls

The workshops will be led by experts and policy makers in these fields including: Kim McGuinness, Tracy Brabin, Eve Holt (Head of Policy & Implementation at Greater Manchester Combined Authority), Human Rights legal experts from Leigh Day, Professor Charlotte Clarke (Executive Director of the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing, Durham University), Amy Van Zyl (Chief Executive Officer, Her Circle) & Professor Nicole Westmarland (Director of the Durham Centre for Research into Violence and Abuse (CRiVA), Durham University).

The event is sponsored by Leigh Day.  Food and refreshment will also be provided.
